Tell-Tale Signs of a Poor Speaker
Some tell-tale signs of a poor speaker can be seen in these examples:
1. The speaker who bobs back-and-forth on his or her feet.
This type may simply be a poor speaker or is just afraid.
A GOOD speaker will plant both feet on the floor and then check on it at times.
During the speech the speaker makes sure that no bobbing is going on at all.
Bobbing back-and-forth is distracting to the audience.

2. The speaker who goes from one "and ah" to another all the way through the speech.
This trap can be eliminated with the careful rehearsal of your speech.
Tape-recording your speech and listening back to it will reveal this fault.
Knowing your speech well is the best insurance against too many "and...ahs."
